Copay, Deductible & Coinsurance
The three forms of patient cost-sharing: a flat fee per visit (copay), an amount paid before coverage kicks in (deductible), and a percentage of costs after that (coinsurance).
These determine what the patient owes and are confirmed during eligibility verification. Collecting them accurately - ideally at the point of service - reduces the balances you have to chase later.
Together they make up patient responsibility.
