Clearinghouse
An intermediary that receives claims from providers, checks and formats them, and routes them to the correct payers.
Clearinghouses run a first layer of edits (rejections) before claims reach the payer, and return status and remittances back to the provider. They're the pipes between your billing system and hundreds of payers.
A rejection at the clearinghouse is different from a payer denial.
